Dental Scholarship
Awarded to GUICHARD ETIENNE

On a humanitarian trip toGuichard Etinne Haiti in 2008, Danielle met Guichard Etienne for the first time. As Danielle remembers:

"At that time he was a young man/shy/very soft spoken. He was approached by his community to train with our dental team visiting his town of Timo. He agreed, but was clearly overwhelmed that first year. He was taught basic dental care which included pulling teeth. He was given a set of dental tools/anesthetic/syringes/gauze etc. He was taught how to sterilize his supplies. He worked in his community and was invited to other small communities through Haiti to provide dental care.

When we next saw him a year later Guichard was a new man. He stood straight and tall and spoke clearly and with confidence. At the end of our teamwork in 2009 Guichard told me of his desire to become a dentist.

Women and Children's HopeGuichard EtinneFoundation has set up a scholarship for him and he was meant to start his classes in January 2010 but the earthquake raised his school so his education was put on hold. He worked with our team again in Leogane in February 2010 (post-earthquake) so now Guichard's hopes and dreams for himself and his future start next week as he begins his first semester of a 3-4 year Haitian dental program."
